Our field trip to labor and delivery

25 week bellyshotWeek 25 of my pregnancy turned out to be a pretty exciting week.  (In fact, it was quite a bit more excitement than this mom-to-be needed!)  After four weeks of having less than 4 contractions per hour, I had 13 contractions in an hour on Tuesday night.  Since this was so much more than my normal baseline, my nurse and the on-duty perinatologist recommended that I head in to the hospital.  Seth and I got to the hospital just after midnight.  By 2:00 am, the doctors were able to get the contractions stopped.  I stayed in the hospital overnight to make sure that the contractions did not start up again and to wait for the results on my fFN test.  (An fFN test looks for the presence of a protein that is usually not present until about two weeks before a women will go into labor.)  Luckily, my fFN test came back negative which means that it is highly unlikely that I will go into preterm labor in the next two weeks.  With this great news, I was released from the hospital and back home before lunch on Wednesday.

On Friday, I went back to the doctor for a quick check-up and I am happy to report that everyone is doing well!  The babies heartbeats are all within the normal ranges; they each have plenty of fluid and space around them; and mom’s body is holding up pretty well too.   I was a bit disappointed that the doctor did not do a growth scan on the babies.  I was hoping to see if they had a growth spurt this week.  (I read online that a growth spurt can be one possible cause for having episode of contractions like the ones I experienced.)  I guess that I will have to wait until my next appointment on July 3rd to see how much they have grown.  At my last appointment, they were 1lb13oz (A), 1lb9oz (B) and 1lb11oz (C).  By next Thursday, I am expecting them all to be well over 2lbs each!

For those who have been asking, I included a picture taken at 25 weeks and 3 days.  As you can see, my belly is getting pretty big (and heavy!).

24 weeks down…12 to go…

IMG_1990 I hit the 24 week mark in my pregnancy today.  According to Dr. Barbara Luke in When you’re expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads, this week marks the first “touchdown” in the football game of a multiples pregnancy.  She lists out the “touchdowns” as follows:

24 weeks – the border of viability

28 weeks – very early preterm

32 weeks – early preterm

35 weeks – preterm for multiples

36 weeks – term for triplets

I find it odd that she compares pregnancy to a football game, as many women aren’t that into football, but I personally really like the analogy.  I consider this an early first quarter touchdown.  While it is great to get those first 7 points up on the board, there is still a lot of the game left to play…

Speaking of playing games, I think that the babies have taken to playing soccer in my belly at 3:00 AM!  They are moving around so much now.  Seth has finally been able to feel them kick!  I am glad that they are getting stronger and bigger.  At my last ultrasound, they measured 1lb 6oz, 1lb 4oz, and 1lb 2oz.  Which is fantastic — average fetal weight at that time was around 1lb 2oz.  Seeing these kinds of results definitely makes it easier to keep drinking all those protein shakes!  I go back for another ultrasound on Friday and can’t wait to see how much they have grown in the two weeks since my last visit!

In other news,  I am surviving my house arrest.  The walls haven’t started closing in yet, but I think I may have hit my quota for hgtv and food network.  If anyone has any good books to recommend, please let me know!

22 weeks – Stretch marks ?!?! Already ?!?!

June 2nd, 2008 by Jaclyn

I hit the 22 week mark in my pregnancy yesterday and I found something interesting on my belly — stretch marks!  I guess that “Tummy Honey” does not work quites as well as they say it does… Oh well … I knew that these “Badges of Motherhood” were inevitable in a triplet pregnancy.  I am not so much surprised that I have developed them as I am by how early they have appeared.  I didn’t think they would show up until 30 weeks or so!

In other baby news, I am going back to the doctor on Friday for another ultrasound.  I am excited to see how much they have grown since my last appointment.  I think that it will be alot, based on how much they are moving and kicking now.  Baby C practically kicked my contraction monitor off of my belly this morning — I guess that he did not like where I placed it :-)
