33 weeks down … just 22 days to go!!!

August 19th, 2008 by Jaclyn

Sorry for the delay in posting updates but the last weeks have been pretty exciting around here.  Well – it may only be considered exciting by someone who has been stuck at the house for the past 13 weeks…but we’ll stick with the term exciting!

The best part of the past week has been that my Mom has been in town taking care of me and getting the house ready for the babies.  She cooked some great meals for Seth and I and spent much of the rest of the time washing and organizing the babies’ clothes, blankets, and nursery.  Thanks to all of her hard work (I can’t even hazard a guess at how many loads of laundry she must have done), our nursery is now officially ready for the Chislets!

Unfortunately, she also had to spend quite a bit of time driving back and forth to the hospital and hanging out with me there.  I blew my contraction threshold last Tuesday morning and had to go back into the hospital for monitoring.  Unlike my last trip to the hospital, I had to stay for 2 nights this time — so I was stuck there from Tuesday morning until Thursday afternoon!

IMG_4942.JPGOn Friday afternoon, Mom and I went to the doctor for my bi-weekly growth ultrasound.  The babies have been growing like crazy since their last measurement.  Baby A measured 4 lbs 14 oz, Baby B measured 3 lbs 15 oz and Baby C measured 4 lbs 8 oz.  Average fetal weight for a singleton at this gestation is right around 4 lbs, so all of the babies are measuring on target or larger.  In addition to great measurements, we were also able to see that Baby A had the hiccups and we could see some hair on Baby B’s head!  Poor Baby C – we were able to see that both Baby A and C have their feet pointed at him.  I hope that he isn’t getting kicked around too much in there!

Mom took me out for a mini-makeover on Saturday morning – I got a new haircut and a pedicure!  I haven’t felt this cute in weeks!  Above is a picture of my new haircut and my huge belly.

It takes a village . . .

July 26th, 2008 by Jaclyn

There is a saying that “It takes a village to raise a child.”  In our case, it also takes a village to put the nursery together!  Like most women in their third trimester, I am definitely getting the urge to get the house ready for the babies.  Since I am on modified bedrest, I can’t do much of the work myself.  Lucky for Seth and I, our family and friends have jumped in to help us get the nursery ready for the Chislets!

Jaclyn (Mom) reading to The Chislets Earlier this spring, my Dad installed a screen door for us on the nursery so that we could keep the cats out, but still let fresh air in.  I love it.  Sometimes I sit in there and read and just enjoy being in a cat-free zone.

Aunt Jen & Uncle Neil helped with paintingTwo weekends ago, Jen and Neil painted the nursery while my parents took care of Kelly (and catered the event!  I was craving homemade pretzels, so Grandmom, Grandpop and Kelly made them for me!)

Grandmom & Grandpop helped with the borderOnce the paint was dry, my Mom and Dad hung the border and helped get the closet organized.

Christian and Seth (Dad) putting the dresser together Last weekend, our good friend Christian came over to help Seth pick up the dresser and assemble it.  Little did these boys know that I picked out a huge dresser with a lot of unassembled drawers – It took a while to get it together, but I think that it looks great!

Overall, I am really happy with how the nursery is turning out.  We still have a couple things to go.  .  .  My sister-in-law, Kristine, is painting wall letters to hang over each of the babies’ cribs.  When my mom comes back to visit in August, we are going to get everything washed and put away in the proper places.

28 Weeks – More growth updates

July 18th, 2008 by Jaclyn

I just got back from my 28 week ultrasound and am proud to report that the kids have kept up their outstanding growth!  They are currently measuring 3lb (Baby A), 2lb 13oz (Baby B), and 2lb 13oz (Baby C).  I am so thankful that they are growing at such a great rate, especially since they only have 54 days left inside me!

IMG_4917.JPG In addition to the babies doing well, my body is holding up so well that Dr. H said that Seth and I could go out to dinner this weekend.  Woohoo … another trip out of the house!

Attached is a quick snap-shot that Seth took of me tonight so that you all could see that the babies aren’t the only ones who are growing fast.  I feel like my belly is growing at an exponential pace!  (I guess that I shouldn’t expect any less considering that there is 8lb 10oz of baby in me.)

26 weeks – Happy 4th of July!

July 4th, 2008 by Jaclyn

26 week bellyshot I got some great news at the doctor yesterday!  I went in for my 26 week growth scan and I am happy to report that my babies are huge!  Baby A measured 2lb 4oz; baby B measured 2lb 3 oz and baby C measured 2lb 7oz.  (Yes folks, that’s a total of 6lb 14oz of baby! — Now I know why my back hurts!)  Average fetal weight at 26 weeks is 2lb 0oz, so all of the kids are measuring ahead of average!

The doctor also said that we could tentatively plan on September 10th as a delivery date.  We won’t schedule the c-section until we get closer to the date, but this does mean that I have just 68 days to go until I am a Mom!

I hope that everyone has a fun long weekend planned!  Seth and I have a great weekend planned.  My doctor gave me the go ahead to go to a cookout at Jen’s tonight and a movie later this weekend!  I am so excited to get out of the house for a couple hours!

Our field trip to labor and delivery

25 week bellyshotWeek 25 of my pregnancy turned out to be a pretty exciting week.  (In fact, it was quite a bit more excitement than this mom-to-be needed!)  After four weeks of having less than 4 contractions per hour, I had 13 contractions in an hour on Tuesday night.  Since this was so much more than my normal baseline, my nurse and the on-duty perinatologist recommended that I head in to the hospital.  Seth and I got to the hospital just after midnight.  By 2:00 am, the doctors were able to get the contractions stopped.  I stayed in the hospital overnight to make sure that the contractions did not start up again and to wait for the results on my fFN test.  (An fFN test looks for the presence of a protein that is usually not present until about two weeks before a women will go into labor.)  Luckily, my fFN test came back negative which means that it is highly unlikely that I will go into preterm labor in the next two weeks.  With this great news, I was released from the hospital and back home before lunch on Wednesday.

On Friday, I went back to the doctor for a quick check-up and I am happy to report that everyone is doing well!  The babies heartbeats are all within the normal ranges; they each have plenty of fluid and space around them; and mom’s body is holding up pretty well too.   I was a bit disappointed that the doctor did not do a growth scan on the babies.  I was hoping to see if they had a growth spurt this week.  (I read online that a growth spurt can be one possible cause for having episode of contractions like the ones I experienced.)  I guess that I will have to wait until my next appointment on July 3rd to see how much they have grown.  At my last appointment, they were 1lb13oz (A), 1lb9oz (B) and 1lb11oz (C).  By next Thursday, I am expecting them all to be well over 2lbs each!

For those who have been asking, I included a picture taken at 25 weeks and 3 days.  As you can see, my belly is getting pretty big (and heavy!).
